Transitioning towards renewable energy and improving energy efficiency lie at the heart of building a sustainable energy future. The winter school aims to bring together young researchers and distinguished scholars interested in the field of energy and environmental economics to discuss timely topics in the field of renewable energy, and to explore the opportunities as well as the challenges involved in the process of clean energy transition.

Egypt is a country with vast untapped renewable energy potential and has over the past few years attracted major investments that are turning the country into a regional energy hub. The winter school sheds light on Egypt’s sustainable energy strategy and explores the country’s impressive energy landscape comprising a wide array of mega projects in solar, wind and hydro power. Participants would be able to experience hands-on Egypt’s ongoing energy transition as the program comprises interesting field visits in addition to intriguing discussions with leading clean energy entrepreneurs, important financing partners and representatives from the industry.
The winter school will allow the participants to get a glimpse of the Egyptian culture and heritage with the intercultural exchange being a core component of the program.

Program's highlights: The Winter School will take place over a period of one week (11-17.12.2021) in Cairo and in Asswan. During the first four days, participants will attend a number of sessions on the topic of energy transition as well as one the opportunities and challenges of using renewable energy in Egypt. Additionally, we will organize field visits of solar power plants in proximity to the region of Greater-Cairo. On the fifth day we will fly to the beautiful city of Asswan in the South of Egypt for two nights. There we will have the opportunity to visit the High-Dam and the Benban Solar Park (the second biggest solar park in the world). We will make sure also that you have some free time to visit the city and its historical monuments.
